How to Make Money from Retail Store Sales!

The other day, I visited a local retail store to check out their clearance section.  Why? To see if I could find anything that was discounted–I mean REALLY discounted–that I could purchase and resell either on Amazon or Craigslist. I chose this particular retail store because they sold toys in the back of the store but wasn’t considered a popular store to shop for toys.

I arrived at the store at 8:00 a.m., right when they opened. I walked around the toy section that had many toys on sale for 30-40% off, but when I look for things to resell, I look for big discounts like at least 75-80% off. Truthfully, 30-40% off the original price won’t be a big enough discount for a reseller to make any profit.

However, even if something is on sale for 80%, it doesn’t mean it will be a good product to resell. For instance, I found one of the Twilight board games sitting on a clearance shelf at a huge discount. I got a little excited when I saw what I could purchase it for so I scanned the bar code with my free Profit Bandit app for Android and found out that it wasn’t that popular of a game anymore (maybe it never was–I don’t know). This app lets you know what items are selling for on Amazon and if you could make a profit selling it. It’s an amazing app and I highly recommend it if you are already a reseller or you want to get into the reselling game.

I almost left the store after scanning several items on the clearance shelves, but I did find a highly sought after Mega Bloks toy and another popular game that were both highly discounted. After checking Profit Bandit, I added them to my cart.  I didn’t think I would find anything else though on this particular day. Some days are better than others. Then I saw a really big box on the bottom shelf. I checked it out and it happened to be a really cool dollhouse with which I was familiar. It was marked down from $129.99 to $25.99. I checked the box out to make sure it hadn’t been opened before. Everything looked good. I knew it would sell on Craigslist so I bought it along with the other items. I was even able to use a 15% coupon!

I listed the dollhouse on Craigslist for $65 and I had a buyer within a day; not bad for a few minutes of “work!” I listed the games on Amazon and they all sold. In fact, the Mega Bloks game sold within hours of listing it!

So what’s the moral of this story? There are opportunities to make money all around us. In fact, when you get in that mindset, it can almost drive you crazy! When I walk into a store, I feel like I’ve left money on the table if I don’t have time to shop around for deals. If you’re into treasure hunting like me, then you might like the book, “Barcode Booty: How I found $2 million of ‘junk’ on eBay and Amazon, And you can, too, using your phone,” by Steve Weber. If you have a Kindle and an Amazon Prime membership, you can read the book for free, otherwise, you can buy the book new on Amazon for around $12 or used for about $10.

Men’s Health Magazine had an article in their June issue on how to make some quick cash.  Maybe like me, you’ve heard of a couple of these websites, and others, you haven’t. I’m always looking for new ways to earn a few bucks as my “Mocha Money,” and I know I’ll be using a couple of these websites to do just that. Feel free to add additional quick cash websites in the comments section.

SWAGBUCKS: Earn Swag Bucks for taking online company surveys, viewing online tutorial videos, and using Swagbucks’ unique search engine. Trade the digital currency for the real stuff, in the form of gift cards and PayPal credit. Yes, the work can be boring, but one survey can pay up to $50.

WE REWARD: This iPhone and Android app works like Foursquare, but you earn points instead of badges. Points are worth a penny, and you can collect them by checking in or for doing simple tasks, like posting a pic of you drinking a Starbucks coffee.

You can also trade in your points for cash — sometimes as much as $50 — depending on how often you use the app.

MICROWORKERS: Companies want Facebook likes, YouTube votes, and positive tweets — so much so that they’re willing to pay a dime or more per “micro job” if you help them boost their social media presence with your clicks.

You may be helping them game the system, but you just bought yourself lunch or more

GAZELLE: The planet-conscious folks at Gazelle pay cash for your old electronic gadgets. They’ll fork over $100 for iPhone 3GS and upwards of $100 for an old Apple laptop. Plus: free shipping! I wrote a post awhile back about Gazelle and other websites you can visit that will give you cash back for used electronics. Check it out here: “Turn Your Gadgets Into Cash and Help Save the Environment!

FIVERR: I’ve actually made consistent money with Fiverr in the past. In fact, I had to suspend my gigs because I couldn’t keep up with the orders with everything else I had going on! If you don’t know about Fiverr, the website lets users post their talents for others to buy. You earn $4 (Fiverr nabs the other buck). Talents range from the practical (writing a blog post) to the bizarre (a custom message by an Alec Baldwin impersonator).

The author of The Laptop Millionaire: How Anyone Can Escape the 9 to 5 and Make Money Online, has an entire chapter dedicated to Fiverr. Some of his case studies include folks making thousands of dollars with Fiverr. It’s amazing the creative things people can come up with to make some quick cash. If you haven’t read the Laptop Millionaire by Mark Anastasi, you should. The only negative thing I can say about this book is that there are too many great ideas in it! You will have a heard time deciding which one to implement first!

Again, please feel free to add any additional quick cash websites in the comments section. Thank you!

I recently had a subscriber unsubscribe from my email list who was so kind to provide feedback on why he was leaving my list. He told me that he needed cash today and that my information didn’t address that need.

Well, he’s partially right. I don’t really talk about how to fill your pockets with cash by the end of the day. I do talk about different legitimate techniques you can use to earn extra money in your spare time. Some of them take days, some of them take weeks. However, after thinking about this ex-subscriber’s comment, I thought I would share some ways you can legally get extra cash by the end of the day.

I know this has been said a million times before, but I’m going to say it again–sell stuff on Craigslist for quick cash! I just did this the other week. I sold a portable, soft dog crate that was unopened. I bought two of these by mistake on Amazon last summer. I must have hit the order button twice because two showed up on my doorstep. My dog ate through the first one, and the second one sat unopened in my garage all winter.

I checked Amazon to see what the going rate was for these dog crates and I checked the other listings on Craigslist for similar items. I found that the particular crate that I had was selling for approximately $70 and up. I listed mine on Craigslist for $60 cash. Immediately, I had three potential buyers email me. Most buyers on Craigslist are eager to pickup their purchase so you shouldn’t have a problem arranging for the buyer to come over to your house that same day, or for you to meet them somewhere.

Right before the buyer showed up, I removed the packing slip from the box and checked out the price I paid for it last summer. Guess what? I paid $36! It must have been a daily deal or a blowout sale or something like that. I’m a huge fan of arbitrage so I felt pretty good about this deal. I was making a profit on this sale,  AND the buyer got what she wanted and was paying less than retail for it. A win-win all around!

Another great idea for making quick cash today, would be to sell something you have to a neighbor that needs or wants it. I’ve done this too. My son grew out of his snowboard boots and snowboard so we offered it to our neighbor who has a son that wanted to snowboard and who would fit the equipment. The cash exchanged hands and everyone was happy!

A third idea involves consignment shops. Call consignment shops in your area to see who pays for inventory on the spot; believe it or not, some do. I haven’t done this in awhile, but in the past I found a nearby consignment store that paid me for my used kids clothes the same day I brought them in. I once walked out of this store with $100 bill in my pocket!

The above are just three ideas to put extra cash in your pocket today. Obviously, if you are an internet marketer and have built yourself a list of eager buyers for whatever you are selling at a push of a button, this information isn’t really for you. But if you are someone who likes to earn extra money in your spare time and is always looking for new and creative ways to make this happen, then hopefully your money-making juices are starting to flow!

If you have some other ideas, please share in the comments below. Who doesn’t love learning about new ways to make extra money!

I just discovered a pretty easy way to get $20 Amazon gift cards again and again. SocialMoms.com (don’t worry single people or dads, you can visit too!) is a website where you sign up and engage in commenting, tweeting, entering contests, or answering questions in exchange for points that you can redeem for Amazon gift cards.

I just joined last week and have only spent maybe a total of 25 minutes on the site in total and have 1,350 points already. I need 4,000 points to receive the $20 Amazon gift card. I like the system because all I have to do is tweet a post and I receive 25 points. A lot of the other points websites only give you 5 points for reading an email, or 10 points for answering questions to see if you qualify for a survey that most times you’ll be rejected for.

I was able to receive over 1,200 points the other day with SocialMoms.com by entering some contests, commenting on some posts and then tweeting the posts. Today, I received an offer of 500 points for doing the same. You see, SocialMoms will send out a weekly email with a “roundup” of all the things you can do to earn maximum points. I did everything in the first email and it took me about 15 minutes (I haven’t done anything yet from the email I just received today). Plus, maybe, just maybe, I’ll win some of those contests!

The only negative (well, there might be two), is that you only have the $20 Amazon gift card to choose from when you hit 4,000 points, or a $40 PayPal payment when you reach 8,000 points. In addition, you can choose $10  off Lip Therapy by Own Products for 550 points. But that’s it–just those three items.

I’m still new to SocialMoms so I don’t yet know all the ways to score the points. However, I read somewhere on the website that they cap the number of monthly points you can earn. I don’t see that written anywhere from the owners of the site, so I don’t know if that’s true or not. I also saw where I can add a widget to my website that would allow people to get points for “Liking” my Facebook Page. That’s great if users of SocialMoms can get points for Liking Facebook pages, but there’s no real way to find the websites that have this widget unless I’m missing something.

The way I figure it is if I can reach 4,000 points so I can redeem them for the $20 Amazon gift card and spend less than 1 hour in total achieving this goal, then I think it’s worth my time. What about you? If you think it’s worth it, then go ahead and give SocialMoms.com a try. You’ll receive 250 points just for signing up!

Today I earned cash back by shopping at Kohl’s through an Ebates.com link, and discovered how to turn a little shopping into earning some real money from home. Yes, I know that cash back sites are nothing new and they are old news to some, but if you haven’t signed up at any of the cash back sites yet, now is your time to do it, especially if you’re looking for a way to earn extra money from home in your spare time.

Since I recently wrote a couple of posts on buying discounted gift cards, I’m still in that mindset of saving and earning money (who am I kidding, I’m always in that mindset!). Today I needed to buy some shorts and a swimsuit for my soon to be thirteen-year-old son since we are going on vacation soon. I was reading an article online that mentioned Ebates.com as a really good cash back website. I thought I would check it out. In doing so, I noticed that Kohl’s had a 6% cash back reward plus a coupon code that would get me an extra 20% off my purchase. All I had to do was click the Kohl’s link on the Ebates website and Ebates opens what they call a tracking ticket. If you complete a purchase through that link, the store lets Ebates know, and in a few days you will see cash back added to your account. Ebates pays you quarterly either through a check, or PayPal–your choice.

However, if you apply my gift card money-making technique revealed in my Gift Cards Can Make You Money post, coupled with Ebates (as long as a retailer that you have a gift card for is listed on Ebates), you could make some serious part-time money.

For instance, if you purchased a discounted Kohl’s gift card at 12% off face value (being offered right now on giftcardrescue.com), used it to buy sale merchandise on the Kohl’s website that you linked through from the Ebates website (remember the 6% cash back offer by visiting Kohl’s through Ebates link), used a coupon code to get an additional percentage off the sale price (right now there’s a 20% coupon code for Kohl’s which is displayed on the Kohl’s page at Ebates), got free shipping (Kohl’s is offering free shipping on a purchase of $75 or more at the time of this writing), THEN turned around and sold your merchandise on eBay for a profit, you would have yourself a nice little home business. Not only will you be receiving money in your PayPal account after your eBay auctions are over, you’ll receive a nice fat check (or deposit into your PayPal account) from Ebates each and every quarter! Turn around and use your Ebates money to fund your next purchase of discounted gift cards, and start all over again.

So what are you waiting for, sign up for your free Ebates account by clicking HERE, and start earning money from home in the next couple of weeks!

We all know that gift cards can save you money, but did you know that they can make you money too? I’m going to show you how with this technique I discovered yesterday when I wrote the post “Buy Gift Cards at a Discount at These Online Discount Gift Card Websites.

I enjoyed writing the post yesterday on saving money by buying discounted gift cards for gifts as well as for personal use. If you’ve been a reader of mine for any amount of time, you know how much I enjoy finding new ways to make extra cash from home to supplement a current income, for spending on extra goodies you normally wouldn’t buy for yourself, or to put away for a rainy day. I also enjoy finding new ways to make money from home that are fun and easy to implement. My gift card technique is just that!

It does help to have a little bit of knowledge of eBay and/or Amazon selling practices because you are going to use one or both of these websites to sell what you buy with your new discounted gift card(s). This will be considered an arbitrage technique because what you are going to do is buy items low either online or at a retail store, and turn around and sell them for a higher price on either eBay or Amazon.

Here’s an example, yesterday I was doing research on the different websites where you can buy discounted gift cards online. I came across a really good deal for an Ann Taylor Loft gift card. It was a $396 gift card being sold for $324.72. That’s an 18% discount! I was thinking of how I could go to the Ann Taylor Loft outlet store, choose some items that are on sale like jewelry or clothes that are seasonal (you don’t want to try and sell winter clothes on eBay when spring is approaching) and list them on eBay. I know from a family member’s experience selling  Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft items on eBay, that they sell fairly well. The $71 you are ahead from the purchase of the discounted gift card coupled with purchasing items on sale, should make you a nice profit on eBay. However, you might also be able to find great deals online at the company’s website.

When I checked the Ann Taylor Loft website, they were having a free shipping special if you purchased $125 or more–not a problem for us since we need to spend $396! In addition, I checked retailmenot.com for any coupon codes that were listed for Ann Taylor Loft, and there was one for 20% off $100 or more! Since we are spending $396, that would be an extra $79 off on top of the $71 I basically scored for free by buying the discounted gift card! In addition, I’m getting my items shipped for free, so I also saved money on gas! By the way, they had plenty of merchandise on sale which included regular, tall and petite sizes as well as maternity clothes. In addition, there was a clearance section that had amazing deals like $60 sweaters marked down to $12.88. If you wanted to forget the arbitrage idea and just stock up on next fall and winter’s wardrobes with this technique, then that would make you a pretty smart shopper!

To summarize this technique, go back to my Buy Gift Cards at a Discount post from yesterday and check out the discounted gift card websites I have listed there. Find cards from merchants that have the biggest percentage off. Next, go to retailmenot.com to see if you can find a coupon code, or search online for a printable coupon to the store. Basically, you want to search for any additional coupons or discounts you can find for that merchant. A gift card is like cash, so it won’t interfere with any promotional codes or coupons you use at the merchant’s store or website.

Before you purchase the gift card (if you are buying it for arbitrage reasons), check out eBay.com and Amazon to make sure you can sell what you buy. On eBay.com, check out the completed auctions and find out what items are selling for. Amazon is a little bit easier to determine the price of listed items. You don’t want to get stuck with a bunch of merchandise you can’t sell!

Once you have your gift card in hand, find sale items at the merchants store or website that you believe you will have a really good chance of reselling for a profit.  If you are buying at the merchant’s website, see if they have any free shipping specials.  If not, double check the price of shipping. You don’t want to eat into your profit with shipping charges! In addition, check for additional on site discounts or specials (Remember the 20% off of $100 at the Ann Taylor Loft website?).

After you’ve done all of the above, all that is left to do is buy, list and sell your items! Hopefully, you will make some nice extra money from home with this technique. All that is left to do is rinse and repeat!

Looking to buy gift cards at a discount for a gift for that someone special, or to use for every day purchases, travel or entertainment? You’re in luck because over the past several years, many online discount gift card websites have popped up to meet the demand of so many people looking for bargains, discounts and coupons in an economy that’s packing a punch to everyone’s wallet these days.

I don’t know about you, but when I’m stuck for buying a gift for someone, I always head to my local supermarket and peruse the large display of gift cards to find just the right card for the gift recipient. I never even thought of checking online until recently to buy gift cards at a discount. Granted, the discount isn’t huge, but if you save $3 or more on a $25 gift card, and the card is shipped for free, why wouldn’t you do it? The only thing standing in my way is my ability to plan ahead for those occasions when a gift card is the best choice as a present for someone, or to supplement a gift I already purchased.

When I did a search on Google for “buy gift cards at discount,” I came up with the following websites that provided discounted gift cards:

Giftcardgranny.com

Plasticjungle.com

Giftcardrescue.com

Cardpool.com

Swapagift.com (allows you to buy gift cards at a discount at their partner site, Giftcards.com)

I happen to be in the market for a Dunkin’ Donuts gift card for my mother-in-law since her birthday is coming up soon, so I checked all of the above websites for such a gift card. As of this morning, only Giftcardgranny had Dunkin’ Donuts gift cards listed. However, the cards listed were being auctioned off on eBay. I don’t mind if the card is on eBay, but I needed a Buy it Now option, and none of the auctions had that feature. In this case, I don’t have time to watch an auction for five to seven days to save a couple of bucks! I did, however, see a good discounted Starbucks offer on eBay that was for a gift card with a $0 balance, but came with 2 free Starbucks drink vouchers for $5.

You see per eBay’s rules, this seller can’t sell the vouchers, so he’s selling the gift card, and throwing in the vouchers as a bonus. I’ve used a voucher like these “bonus” vouchers before. They are vouchers that are given to you when you have been inconvenienced at a Starbucks location, like when you have to wait too long for your drink to be made, or your drink was made wrong. I believe they are good on any size drink (someone correct me if I’m wrong). I wouldn’t mind buying a ton of these vouchers from this seller, however, I only have two or three Starbucks stores around me (they may not work in Target, Safeway, airports or Barnes & Noble locations) and I think they would get suspicious if I kept using these vouchers every day (because, yes, I visit a Starbucks almost every day!). If that doesn’t bother you, or if you travel a lot and don’t visit the same Starbucks very often, then check these out:

So I may not have found the Dunkin’ Donuts gift card I was looking for on the discounted gift card websites, but I’m sure I can come up with another discounted gift card my mother-in-law will like to go with another gift I already have for her, but at least I’m now aware of what discounted gift cards are available.

In addition, I came up with a cool little idea that could help you make money online using some of these discounted gift cards that I will write about in my next post.

For now, if you haven’t already read my post on practicing arbitrage, than head over to my post, Buy Low, Sell High: The Practice of Arbitrage to Earn Extra Cash From Home.

Wouldn’t life be sweet if we could earn $100 a day or more with Google Adsense every day? You know, set up those Google Adsense websites where they attract thousands of click happy visitors a day and all you have to do is check your Google Adsense account every few hours to see how much money you made?

I know there are people out there that have these types of days. In fact, there are probably a handful of folks that make much more than that with just Google Adsense (it’s dangerous to rely just on Google Adsense for all your online income because Google can giveth and Google can taketh away whenever they decide to change their algorithm). But, it finally happened to me–for a day.

I noticed that I was getting an extraordinary amount of visitors on my website, EatFreeOnYourBirthday.com from an article that was posted on Shine, one of Yahoo’s sites. The article was called, 7 Ways to Score Free Stuff and obviously a website with the name Eat Free on Your Birthday was a good match to be mentioned in this article. I’m just glad the author found my site with so many deal, coupon and freebie sites out there!

The spike in traffic was so high that my hosting company actually shut me down for about 24 hours until I optimized the site better (I had been a little lazy in doing that). I can only imagine what my Google Adsense earnings would have been if my website actually had been live the entire first day the article was published.

I’ve had this website up for a while and I do alright with it in terms of Google Adsense. This is a website that I created because of my passion for free or discounted food so it was easy to put together the list of restaurants that offer free or discounted food on your birthday and actually throughout the year. The catch with these kind of deals is that you have to sign up for the restaurant’s email or fan club. But that’s OK. It’s the trade off if you want meal deals.

I’m getting off topic here. What I’m trying to say is that $100 a day with Google Adsense IS possible. I had almost 6,000 visitors that day. My normal traffic is over 300 but less than 500 visitors a day on Eat Free on Your Birthday. Since the article ran almost a week ago, my average traffic has risen but no where near where it was the day the Score Free Stuff article ran.

So, I know that with about 2,500-3,000 visitors a day to my Eat Free website, I could earn around $100 a day from Google Adsense from just one website, not to mention a bunch of new subscribers to MyMochaMoney.com’s newsletter (I had over 30 new subscribers in just one day). The challenge is to keep doing all the things it takes to drive traffic to a website.  As we all know, this is time consuming, but as I know now–very much worth it!

Interested in advertising on EatFreeOnYourBirthday.com? For prices and easy sign up, just click on the picture that has “Advertise Here” under it. Prices start as low as $25 for 7 days, and you can create or upload your own banner.

This isn’t my usual type of post about a deal, savings event, or a real work at home opportunity. Since this is a new year, I thought I would start it out with an inspirational story. I hope you’re all OK with that! (Parts of this post are taken from an article written by By Andrea Stephaich, For Journal Register News Service which can be found HERE).

I’d like to take this time to introduce an extraordinary young man who is making a difference in other people’s lives by giving back. I think if you read about him, it will inspire you to do more (if you aren’t already) like it has inspired me (more to come on this in the upcoming weeks:)

He is only 24 years old and his name is Derek Fiorenza. Since 2007, Derek has been on a quest to tackle one of the world’s toughest problems, hunger. Through his nonprofit, Fiorenza’s Food for Friends, or F4, he has provided meals for the homeless nationwide.

When Derek was 19, he single-handedly began F4 to raise awareness about hunger and inspire others to take action in their communities.

While he was growing up, his parents took him to homeless shelters during the holiday season to serve food. Once he matured, he realized how wide the socioeconomic gap really is between the haves and have-nots and organized 25 meals to be prepared and served in a homeless shelter in his hometown, Coatesville, PA.

He said the success of the event encouraged him to push forward, and the following year 100 meals were served.

In 2011, F4 served 25,000 meals across 14 states, and will be expanding to additional states in 2012. Derek’s ultimate goal is to have a presence in the form of an F4 chapter in every state, and in every major city of every state.

Derek Fiorenza on 30 minutes with Rick Anthony part 1 (Part 2 &3 can be viewed from the selections given at the end of this video)

Derek says, “Anyone who says it’s not necessary to care about others is, in my opinion, living an unfulfilled life; they are not living to their full potential. The secret to living is giving,” Fiorenza said.

I met Derek after a speech he gave at my son’s school. I was so inspired by him, I offered my website design services to him for free so he could get a more professional online presence for F4 and continue to spread the word about his cause. Since our meeting, F4Service.org was created, as well as F4′s Facebook Page. That’s where you come in.

We need help spreading awareness about the hunger issue in our country. If you are inspired by Derek’s story, like I was, would you mind going over to Facebook and clicking “Like” on the F4 Facebook Page and then telling your friends to do the same? Wouldn’t that be wonderful if Derek could reach the goal of at least 25,000 fans in 2012–the number of meals he helped serve to the less fortunate last year?!

You can read more about Derek in this local newspaper article written about him in the Daily Local News: Passion For Fighting Hunger.

Thank you for your help and time!

P.S. Don’t forget to visit F4′s Facebook Page HERE and click “Like.”
