A Little Known FREE Method Of Driving Traffic To Your Website Or Blog

by Melissa on January 6, 2009

Whether you sell on eBay or not, there’s an often overlooked way to drive traffic to your website, blog or business that many people either don’t know about, or just don’t use.

ABOUT ME PAGE

There’s a huge number of eBay members that haven’t set up an About Me page on eBay and I don’t understand it.  Why haven’t they done it?  Not only can they be driving traffic to their About Me page through their auctions and/or store listings, but also through the little known traffic generating tool called Reviews and Guides.

On an eBay member’s About Me page, Ebay allows members to include links that are outside of eBay.  If members have a blog or a website, this is the page that they can use to promote it.  Why not take advantage of it?  It’s a FREE traffic generating tool!

GUIDES & REVIEWS

Writing a Review or a Guide on eBay is a great way to attract traffic to your information.  Once visitors are on your Review or Guide page, you can link to any page within eBay.  In this case, we want to send them to your About Me page where you will have information about your website, products, blog or whatever it is you want to promote.  It doesn’t matter if you have a painting business, a “get rich quick” website, a website promoting affiliate products, or a personal or business blog, you can promote it on your About Me page.

I’ve never written a Review on eBay.  I’ve just written Guides.  So I can only speak about what I know.  However, in looking at the Reviews on eBay, it seems to me that they would work in the same manner as an eBay Guide would in generating traffic to your About Me page.

In attracting visitors to your Review or Guide, you need to write something unique and original, interesting and full of valuable information.  If you follow that guideline, then people are more likely to click on your link to your About Me page to see what you’re all about.

When I was promoting skin care products a couple of years ago, I wrote a How To Guide on how to buy skin care products on eBay.  It’s been viewed over 11,000 times.  I linked this article to my About Me page that promoted my website.  I received leads that turned into customers just from this one Guide.  Not only that, but people thanked me for providing this information.

HOW DID PEOPLE FIND MY GUIDE ON EBAY?

EBay’s Alexa ranking is 20 so it’s not hard to see why eBay Reviews and Guides rank high on Google if they’re about a popular topic in which people are searching information.  Not only that, if you write several Reviews or Guides, eBay will give you a special “Reviewer” label next to your user ID .  I only wrote eight Guides but I have a “Top 5,000 Reviewer” label next to my user ID for everyone to see.  If someone clicks on that label, it takes them to a page that lists my Guides.  People can also vote on whether or not they thought your Review or Guide was helpful.  The Reviews and Guides with the most number of helpful votes can land on the Reviews & Guides front page.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN WRITING A GUIDE

  • Write a short introduction explaining the purpose of your guide.
  • Your first 200 characters will appear when people search for your topic.
  • Insert pictures or links to almost any eBay page.

THINGS YOU CAN’T DO WHEN WRITING A GUIDE

  • Copy and paste from other documents.
  • Write inappropriate comments and profanity.
  • Include links outside of eBay.
  • Include personal information such as your email, phone number, etc.
If you want to try this traffic generating tool and you have an eBay account, go to eBay and sign in.  Then go to the Reviews and Guides page and start writing.  If you don’t have an eBay account (Shame on you!), it’s free to sign-up.  Just go to the eBay Register page and enter your information.  Then go to the Reviews and Guides page to embark on your new traffic generating adventure!
