If you sell luxury, or designer items on eBay that are known to have a counterfeit counterpart such as Rolex watches, Uggs boots, or Coach purses, then you may already know about eBay’s selling limit. If you’re thinking about selling these types of luxury items, then be prepared to face this eBay policy.
My sister-in-law recently started to sell authentic Coach products on eBay. Just the other day, she told me that as she was listing one of her products in an auction format on eBay, she was “blocked” from completing her listing for “safety” reasons. Ebay’s note to her explained that she needed to contact them with any questions.
My sister-in-law had a lot of Coach items taking up space in her home and she needed to sell them. She crafted a thorough email and sent it to eBay. She pointed out that she has a 100% feedback rating and has a number of successful auctions under her belt. Her customer service has been excellent, and her products are authentic and she can prove it.
Well guess what? Ebay lifted her selling limit. I have to admit that I was surprised. She achieved this just by asking them. However, let me just note that she is not a Powerseller listing hundreds of items per month. This may have been in her favor.
I’ve read lots of posts in forums blasting eBay on their selling limit policy. I’m not sure if the forum posts are from Powersellers, or people like my sister-in-law who’s just listing several items per month and making a nice little profit. If anyone has had this happen to them, try emailing eBay and asking them nicely to raise your selling limit (like you would if you wanted your credit card company to raise your spending limit). Point out all the positives on your account such as your great feedback and customer service policies. Be prepared to prove to eBay that the items you sell are authentic. You never know, you just might win them over!
