Did you know that you can sell your old cell phone for cash? Like so many of us, you may have an old cell phone tucked into a drawer that you don’t use anymore. Guess what? That old cell phone could be worth anywhere from $1 to $100. What’s the point of keeping it around anyway? If you aren’t going to donate it, then why not get some cash for that old cell phone!
There are many websites you can go to and find what your old cell phone is worth. However, each website may be different with the price they will pay you for your old cell phone (if a buy-back is offered at all). You need to visit several websites to find the right deal for you. All you have to do is enter the make and model of your cell phone into the correct search boxes to see if a buy-back is offered.
To test some of these cash for cell phones websites, I entered in my current phone, a Sprint Palm Treo 755p, into each one of the websites to see what it’s worth.
Here are the results:
- www.sellthisphone.com: $35
- www.phoneiscash.com: $30
- www.casholdphone: $30
- www.cellforcash.com: $16
- www.gazelle.com: $37
As you can see, Gazelle.com will pay me the most for my cell phone. What I liked about the www.gazelle.com website is that in figuring out the price they were going to give me, they actually asked some questions such as:
- Does your phone make calls successfully?
- Is your phone free of water damage?
- What would you rate your cell phone: poor, fair, good or excellent?
In addition, they asked such questions as:
- Do you have:
- AC Adapter
- Rechargeable Battery
- Original Software CD
- Original Manuals
- Original Cables
They took all the answers to these questions into consideration before giving me the price they would pay me for my old cell phone. None of the other websites did this. All they asked for was the manufacturer’s name and the model of my cell phone.
Some of the companies will pay for shipping, like Gazelle.com (another reason why I liked them), and send you a box with a prepaid shipping label, and some won’t. The companies that won’t pay for shipping explain that if they did, it would delay the whole transaction process. So, if you’re looking to get your cash fast, you may want to pick a website that asks you to ship the phone on your own dollar. Otherwise, wait for the postage-paid mailing box.

This is a great idea for getting some extra cash from your old cell phones as well as clearing up some of the technological clutter we seem to accumulate over time. And wow, you can really see how great the difference is between the web site offers for selling your old cell phone. Thank you for listing all of the sites, it makes finding the best deal much easier.
Boxes to donate or recycle cell phones are everywhere. The option to sell your phone didn’t seem to be an option. To find out that not only is it an option they also pay you a decent sum of money is pretty great. I’m off to dig out all of the old phones.
I have done this before with an old cell phone. I only made a few dollars because it was so old, but it was still great to have that extra cash. It is also great that they can be recycled, rather than simply overstuffing our already full landfills.
This is my favorite post so far! Just because I think we all have old phones lying around the house, I’m definitely bookmarking these sites, I think they’ll come in handy! thanks!!
I am checking out the websites as I type! I am looking forward to selling my old cell phone and get cash for it! Thanks for the links!
I’ve always tried to keep up with the latest cell phone technology so I have plenty of spare cell phones around the house. I have seen advertisements here and there about selling and recycling old cell phones but have been reluctant to try them out. Having seen your post and been given a bunch of credible links to check out, I think I’ll actually try it out. Plus, all of my old phones are still fully functional so maybe I’ll make a pretty penny. Thanks!
I have always sold my old phones on ebay and didn’t ever get the value I thought they deserved. Nice find! I’ve got a few phones I need to sell!
Wow!! Thank you so much i was completely unaware that there was even a market for selling used cell phones. I am going to search through my house tonight and see what i can find! Thank you so much for posting the exact sites we can do this on as well! you really do learn something new every day.
After getting a purchase number online, I shipped my phone to PhoneIsCash.com. However, I did not hear back from them. When I went back online to see why, I discovered that they will often “disqualify” a phone for any reason and not report back to the sender/seller. According to their terms as stated online, when a phone is disqualified, the company merely keeps it — they do not return it or respond to inquiries about it. Their phone is always answered by a fax machine and they do not reply to emails or faxes. Evidently, I was supposed to send the dead battery with the phone, and when I did not, they kept my phone and refused to reply to my further inquiries and my repeated offer to send the dead battery so I could get paid. Do not use this company.
Thanks for sharing! Definitely read all the fine print before sending your cell phone to ANY company to get cash for it.
