Finding Stuff To Sell On eBay has never been easier when you use the method I outline below. It’s one of my most coveted methods at getting the brain juices flowing in order to find stuff to sell on eBay or any place else for that matter. I use this exact method to find things to sell on Amazon, my other websites, and to discover topics to write about and ultimately monetize in some way.
This is my down and dirty method of finding stuff to sell on eBay, by discovering popular niches and specific products in those niches. It’s a simple and quick two-step method that tells me how many people are watching an auction, what the current bid price is, and how many of a specific item were sold in the past, if any. You can also get information on the most bid on items in any category. I get all this information without having to go to eBay and search on the completed auctions listings.
The first part of the method starts out at what’s popular on eBay to find out what’s popular in any category. I tend to search on categories that interest me. However, I’ll look in a category like DVDs because I know I can go to my local thrift store or Goodwill to pick up inexpensive DVDs that tend to always be popular such as Disney DVDs. Not only that, DVDs are easy to ship. If you’re thinking you can’t make any money selling DVDs, think again. Disney DVDs still fetch a nice price depending on which ones, and they are fairly easy to find.
So once you find a category that’s popular, try to dig down into a niche because you’ll have less competition for these items. Afterwards, head over to Watchcount.com. This is a website that shows you what’s most popular on eBay as voted by eBay users. I still like to go to eBay Pulse first though because it shows you different categories within a category like “Clothing, Shoes & Accessories–Women’s Handbags & Bags.”
Watchcount has the main categories listed on the left and if you click on one of the categories, it will show you what’s popular in that main category. On the eBay Popular page, you will see the top ten searches within any niche category. Find one you are interested in and plug it into the Keywords search box on Watchcount and click on the “Show Me What’s Popular” button and the results will show what’s most popular in the niche you’ve chosen. You can enter anything you want to search for on Watchcount, however, if you’re like me and need help with niche ideas, that’s where eBay Popular comes in handy.
I recently did a search on the eBay Popular page and clicked on the “Baby” category, then clicked Keepsakes & Baby Announcements. Baby Shower Decorations showed up as a top 10 search (at the time of writing this post). I clicked on that category and it took me to the live listings page on eBay for Baby Shower Decorations. There were only 8 results for that category (however, sellers were listing in other categories for a total of 1,249 listings–not bad at all!).
I then went over to Watchcount.com and did a search for Baby Shower Decorations to get the number of “watchers” on each auction, current bid price, and past sales. I get all this information on one page without having to click on different auctions at eBay and check out the “completed” auctions to see what sold and what didn’t. However, when I get really interested in one particular product, I will click on the link and check out the seller on eBay to see what the item has sold for in the past (Watchcount does not provide this information).
This is a great way to find out what’s popular, how popular it is by the number of watchers on the auction, what the current bid price is, and if many of the same items have been sold before. Referring back to the Baby Shower Decorations example, if you are someone that’s crafty and can make nice, unique baby shower decorations, or know where you can get discounted or wholesale decorations, this may be a good niche for you.
What’s popular on eBay combined with Watchcount is a great way to get the creative juices flowing, and to figure out what kind of stuff to sell on eBay, Amazon, or on your own website. Watchcount’s Most Bids Tool can also show you the most popular auctions by how many bids are on them. Just choose a category!
Are you an affiliate marketer or someone who earns money by writing on your own blog or at Hubpages or Squidoo? This method is a great way to find popular items to write about.

I found that you can actually dig deeper at watchcount.com by using their advanced search — there you can specify ebay subcategories, just like ebay pulse, but also showing watchers. It also does multiple categories, and category exclusions if you want, or limits just to auctions too.
Carla,
Thanks, Carla! I’ll have to check this out!
