I hate to sound like Seinfeld but, what’s up with the Silly Bandz? If you don’t have kids, than you probably don’t know what these things are. They’re rubber bands worn as bracelets (or used as true rubber bands). They’re made of silicone and die molded in many different fun shapes. Kids collect them, wear them, and trade them with their friends. These rubber bands return to their original shape when you take them off your wrist, or whatever item you’re using them to hold. And guess what? They are sold out at many places!
As crazy as it sounds, these rubber bands/bracelets are extremely hard to find. Or maybe it’s just me. I went to Five Below, Target, WalMart, and the Hallmark store near me today to try to find Silly Bandz and it was a no go. Apparently some Targets and WalMarts carry them but not the ones near me. The Hallmark store near me was cleaned out and expecting a new shipment on Tuesday. Five Below–same thing. You’re probably wondering why I would drive all over the place looking for these things. Well, I promised my kids. Yes, they are spoiled, however, I made them a promise last night that if my son cleaned his desk off and if my daughter cleaned up her dresser, I would get them a pack. I just wanted to make good on my promise.
So you know what I ended up doing? I ordered them off Amazon.com. In my opinion, Amazon has the best selection. I ordered a few 24-packs of the really cool designs like Rock Bandz. I obviously won’t have them today, but I will have them on Saturday. I also scored free two-day shipping. This is how:
If you sign up for a free trial of Amazon Prime, you can get free two-day shipping, or for $3.99 per item, receive your item(s) the next day. I chose the former and will have my Silly Bandz on Saturday (I ordered before noon eastern time on Thursday). What you have to remember though is to choose a seller that has fulfillment through Amazon (it will say this on the item page) so your item is eligible for Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime only works on items sold by Amazon, or by sellers who use Amazon’s fulfillment program.
For everyone that doesn’t know what Amazon Prime is, Amazon Prime is a membership program that gives you and your family unlimited fast shipping, such as FREE Two-Day shipping and One-day shipping for $3.99 per item on all eligible purchases for an annual membership fee of $79. Right now, you can take advantage of a one month free trial. At the end of your free trial period, you’ll be automatically upgraded to a paid annual membership for $79 (this will be billed to the credit card you used to sign up for the free trial). If you don’t want to be upgraded, just cancel during your trial period and you can still enjoy the benefits of the paid membership until the trial period is over.
So there you have it. Buy those hard to find Silly Bandz from Amazon and choose from a large selection of designs, take advantage of Amazon Prime’s free trial membership so you don’t have to pay shipping, save on gas, AND make your kids happy. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a Silly Bandz design you’ll want to keep for yourself!
