I recently mentioned in my post, “Can You Make Money With Twitter? This Product Shows You How,” a cool new Twitter application called Sponsored Tweets that enables you to get paid by others to Tweet.
At the time that I wrote that post, I hadn’t tried Sponsored Tweets yet so I didn’t know if I could make any money with it. How much money you get paid depends on many factors like number of followers, number of people you’re following, the age of your account, and how often you tweet.
Sponsored Tweets will give you a recommended price you should charge per tweet, but you aren’t bound by it and can set whatever price you want. I started out using their recommended price which for me is around $4.22. So an advertiser would have to be willing to pay me $4.22 to tweet something out for them.
Guess what? I got no bites at that price. So I did a couple of things. First, I used a couple of tools I learned about in the TweetDynamite product. I wrote about this product in “Can You Make Money With Twitter? This Product Shows You How.” Dave Nicholson, creator of TweetDynamite, shows you how to increase Twitter followers, and how to setup automatic Tweets, among a bunch of other things. However, these two tools, plus lowering my price to only $.50 started the Tweet requests coming in. I’d rather have the volume and be paid $.50 per Tweet, then have nothing at $4.22!
Not only am I increasing my Twitter followers, I’m finding followers through keywords that have something to with what I blog about. These followers are interested in what I’m talking about, and in return, I’m interested in what they’re talking about, so I follow them back.
As I add more followers, I’m increasing my chances of getting “picked” from Sponsored Tweets advertisers. I Tweet under a “general” category, and I have turned one advertiser down. I won’t accept just any Tweet for my $.50!
My hope is that as my Twitter followers reach 5,000, I’ll be able to increase my rate. But for right now, I’m just excited that I can make a little extra money through Sponsored Tweets on a regular basis.
