My husband was in a golf tournament a couple of weekends ago, and needed to know where to sell our extra Phillies baseball game tickets online–in a hurry.
We had these baseball tickets since the beginning of the summer, and I was very disappointed we wouldn’t be going, however, if my husband could sell the tickets online and at least make our money back, I would be satisfied. He decided to sell them on StubHub instead of trying to sell them on Craigslist.
I have to admit, I’ve been intrigued about the whole online ticket exchange service business for some time now. It’s definitely a really cool business concept, allowing for people to buy or sell concert, sports, and theater tickets online. Now with my husband selling our extra baseball game tickets on StubHub, I would soon find out firsthand if this type of service is worthy of my interest.
Our baseball game was on a Sunday and my husband listed the tickets on StubHub.com on the Thursday before the game. He said the tickets needed to be sold by Friday in order for them to be used for Sunday’s baseball game. The actual physical tickets do not need to trade hands for certain events. Luckily, our baseball game tickets didn’t need to be Federal Expressed to the buyer. They were able to be eDelivered. With eDelivery, you enter the barcodes on your tickets when they sell and StubHub delivers them to the buyer electronically.
My husband listed the tickets for less than the purchase price (but not by too much). He wanted to make sure they would sell so he wouldn’t get stuck with the tickets, and lose the money he spent on them. My husband listed the tickets in an auction style format, and set an end time for Friday night.
As I sit here and write this, I’m thinking he didn’t know that with eDelivery of the tickets, that you can have the auction remain on the site right up until the event starts. I say this because I remember him saying that they had to sell by Friday. Maybe he was thinking at the time that the tickets had to be physically delivered to the buyer. If that was the case, then the auction would have had to end three days prior to the event so that the tickets could reach the buyer in time for the event.
Anyway, the tickets did sell in the auction format, and they sold for more than their purchase price. We were pleasantly surprised and happy that not only did we make our money back, but made a little extra pocket change.
One of the great things about StubHub is that you only pay a small commission when your tickets sell. So if our extra baseball tickets hadn’t sold, we wouldn’t have had to pay anything because it was free to list them.
Would I recommend StubHub to sell extra baseball game tickets online? You bet! And now I have the firsthand experience to know that it does work! Sorry for sounding like a commercial, but here you go…
