If you missed my first post in my ASellerTool bookscouting series, then you may want to read,”Sell Used Books And Toys With SellerTool– First Update In Series.” I discovered a cool way to use the ASellerTool bookscouting tool that you may find interesting, or if you are already a book seller, may have overlooked.
I was scanning the For Sale items under the books category on Craislist, when I came across someone selling a ton of their books because they were moving. They were inviting anyone interested in checking out their book collection to call them.
I called the person, who happened to be a woman, and arranged a time to visit her house and look at the books she was selling. I brought my PDA loaded with the ASellerTool, and scanner so I’d be prepared to make accurate choices on books that I may want to buy from her.
Before I started scanning the seller’s books, I told her I had a scanner that I would be using to determine what books I may want to buy. Yes–I told her I was a book seller. She didn’t seem to mind. She was just interested in getting rid of some books.
She had books upon books stacked on her dining room table as well as under it, and in her living room as well. The ASellerTool allowed me to move quickly around the table to scan every book she was selling. There is a lot you can learn about a person by the types of books they read. For instance, by the amount of self-help books she had and the titles of these books, I surmised she was moving due to a divorce.
In the end, I came up with a couple of boxes of books that are selling well on Amazon, and that should provide me with a nice profit. In addition, she had the entire Lemony Snicket, The Complete Wreck (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Books 1-13)
–all first edition hardback books that also sell extremely well on Amazon (or I may decide to sell these on eBay). I walked out of her house only paying $30 for everything! The sale of just the Lemony Snicket books alone will cover my cost and then some!
There are plenty of places you can use the ASellerTool to get inventory in order to sell new or used books on Amazon, eBay, or any of the other online marketplaces. Just be creative and have fun with it!

I’ve found that an even better place to look on Craigslist than the books section is the Garage Sale section. You can find a lot of good books from people like the woman you dealt with there.
