After One Week As An Affiliate Marketer

Well, I’ve been doing it all wrong. I’m always so quick to review information and get the “overview” that sometimes I miss important details–in this case, VERY important details.

As you know, I’ve been following the “One Week Marketing” system by PotPieGirl that primarily uses Squidoo lenses and other free online resources to promote affiliate products (if you’re interested in learning about Squidoo, you can download her 50+ page, step-by-step instruction, “How To Squidoo Guide for FREE). However, I missed a key element of making this system work: really drilling down to a niche and using the same long-tail keyword within my url, the titles of my lenses, (articles), and in the titles of all my modules (paragraphs). I was using long-tail keywords, but different ones for each of my lenses. You can check it out for yourself. Right now, I have four lenses published:

As you can see, I used the same long-tail keywords in the first two lenses, “Natural Acne Treatment.” In the third lens, I used, “Natural Treatment To Cure Acne,” and in the fourth lens I used, “Diet and Acne.” In addition to not using the same long-tail keyword in the titles of my lenses, none of the lenses use a url with a variation of the same long-tail keyword. I’m not doing what was explained in “One Week Marketing!” Ugh! And my traffic (17) and sales (0 after a week–just 9 clickouts) shows it. PotPieGirl explains that you don’t need to find keywords that tons of people are searching for; instead, you want minimal competition for words that are STILL being searched on. Don’t turn your nose up at a keyword phrase that may only return 100,000 competitor pages. She goes on to say that you can play and play WELL in the kiddie pool (watch PotPieGirl’s system in action in the video below)!

Here’s an example of what I probably should have done. Let’s say I’m promoting an acne related affiliate product (which I am). Let’s also say that I believe adult acne is something people are searching for information on. I want to drill way down in that niche and maybe create lenses with the following titles:

Getting Rid Of Adult Acne On The Chin
Advice For Getting Rid Of Adult Acne
Adult Acne And Men-What Gives?
Getting Rid Of Adult Cystic Acne

You get the picture. However, as of today, all four of my lenses are indexed by Google (yeah!). It took a few days to get the last two lenses indexed, but the fact that I submitted the feeds from those two lenses again to the feed sites suggested by PotPieGirl, and submitting additional blog posts to the blogs also suggested by PotPieGirl, got me indexed. It happened just like PotPieGirl claims in her One Week Marketing system. In addition, I’m listed on page two of Google for my YouTube video for the keywords, “Natural Treatment To Cure Acne,” and listed on page two of Google for the keywords, “Best Natural Acne Treatment” (however, this isn’t for my Squidoo lens, it’s for one of the blog posts I made on one of the sites suggested in “One Week Marketing” –a blog post to direct people to one of my Squidoo lenses). But as you know, page two just isn’t good enough!
