Work Part-Time From Home As A Local Childcare Coordinator

by Melissa on March 23, 2009

Are you someone that has experience, or an interest in international, travel, or cultural exchange?  Have you ever employed an au pair, or have been one yourself?  Do you have a background in sales or customer service, or experience with interviewing and/or counseling?  Are you involved in your community and know how to network?  If any of the above describe you, then a part-time work from home position as a local childcare coordinator with Cultural Care Au Pair may be the opportunity for you!

As a local childcare coordinator (LCC), you will help families and au pairs connect, in addition to bringing quality childcare and enriching cultural experiences to your community. Join an international network of more than 600 local childcare coordinators who work as independent contractors on a part-time basis, and dedicated staff in the U.S. and abroad in providing support for our host families and au pairs. Cultural Care Au Pair is an experienced and trusted cultural exchange program. We value our enthusiastic local childcare coordinators who provide our host families and au pairs with outstanding support and customer service throughout their year together.

As a local childcare coordinator in your community, you are an important part-time member of the Cultural Care Au Pair team. You are an organizer, a mediator, a diplomat, a marketer and an advocate. You will find that working closely with host families and au pairs and marketing the Cultural Care Au Pair program are some of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of the local childcare coordinator position.

Although you are very much an entrepreneur with the flexibility to work out of your own home while building a local market, your Program Director, Regional Development Director and Cultural Care’s office staff will work closely with you to assist you with your efforts. In addition to your initial training by a staff member, you will be required to attend eight advanced training classes through our virtual classroom to enhance your knowledge of our program.

The four primary components of the local childcare coordinator position are:

Year-round support

  • Contact new au pairs within 48 hours of their arrival and conduct an in-home orientation within two weeks
  • Host monthly au pair meetings
  • Contact host families monthly
  • Hold two Host Family Day Conferences each year
  • Field questions and inquiries in your region
  • Conduct mediation if needed

You will be a source of support for your host families and au pairs throughout their year together. Challenges that do arise in a host family usually occur in the beginning weeks during an adjustment period. Therefore, it is important to phone new au pairs within 48 hours after their arrival and provide an orientation for the au pair and host family within two weeks. Your host families and au pairs will depend on you as a resource for information on enrolling in academic courses, the U.S. Department of State regulations, opening a bank account, obtaining a social security number, the driver’s license process and more.

Screening and interviewing host families

  • Ensure that we recruit quality families with reasonable program expectations
  • Conduct a host family interview
  • Verify host family references

Each family, whether new or repeat, needs to be interviewed in their home with all family members present before an au pair can be placed. At this time, you will be able to answer any of their questions and respond to any concerns the family may have.

Overseeing compliance with regulations

  • Enforce U.S. Department of State regulations
  • Provide monthly documentation of host family and au pair contact and support

Many of the screening and support responsibilities listed above are required by the U.S. Department of State. You will work closely with your Program Director to ensure that all guidelines are met and all questions are answered.

Marketing

  • Initiate grassroots marketing efforts
  • Generate “word of mouth” referrals
  • Network through local events
  • Follow up on inquiries about the program

As an LCC, you will market in your community using grassroots efforts and networking skills. Your Regional Development Director will assist you with any ideas or materials you need to raise awareness in your area. Although there are many ways host families discover our program, local childcare coordinators play a vital role in successfully educating families about Cultural Care Au Pair by following up with families in their community who have inquired about the program.

You will be the face of Cultural Care Au Pair in your community, and Cultural Care hopes that your involvement brings you many rewards, including exposure to other cultures and a great deal of fun! Apply now!
