Here’s Your Chance To Collect Tips!

by Melissa on March 5, 2009

If you’re not only looking to make money but save money as well, then check out Google’s recently launched site called TipJar.  Tip Jar is a collection of money saving tips submitted and ranked by the web community.  Categories include:

  • At Home
  • At Work
  • Shopping
  • Finance
  • Kids & Family
  • Cars & Transit
  • Food
  • Vacation
  • Misc

In Twitter-like fashion, tips can only be 250 characters long (OK, a bit longer than tweets), so you can get your money saving tips–and a lot of them–quickly and easily.  I even added a few myself.

The web community votes on tips and the ones with the highest number of votes rises to the top.  I thought my money saving tip on buying books at the Goodwill, especially on $1 a bag of books day, was a useful tip, but apparently someone didn’t think that tip was very good, giving me a thumbs down on that one.  I personally thought my tip was better than, “Pay your bills online to save on postage,” and “Don’t miss credit card payments,” but maybe it was a Barnes & Noble employee that didn’t like my suggestion of buying used books to save money.

TipJar is worth checking out.  It’s a simple site and could probably use some more bells and whistles, but I’m thinking this site is a work in progress.  Leave it up to Google to make this is a truly “bookmarkable” site at some point in the future.  Afterall, who isn’t looking to save money today?
